Simplifying Highway Merges in the 2026 Hyundai Santa Fe Hybrid With Highway Driving Assist and Blind View Monitor

Simplifying Highway Merges in the 2026 Hyundai Santa Fe Hybrid With Highway Driving Assist and Blind View Monitor

Merging onto a busy Nova Scotia highway takes a quick check of speed, lane position, and whatever is sitting in your blind spot. The 2026 Santa Fe Hybrid pairs two systems, Highway Driving Assist and Blind View Monitor, to help with exactly that moment. Here is what each one actually does, and which trims include them.

What Highway Driving Assist and Blind View Monitor Do

Highway Driving Assist works with the Santa Fe Hybrid’s adaptive cruise control, Lane Keeping Assist, and Lane Following Assist 2 to hold your lane position and speed on the highway. Two versions exist across the lineup: HDA 1 and the more advanced HDA 2.

Blind View Monitor is different from the standard Blind-spot Collision Warning most trims already carry. Instead of a warning icon, it puts a live camera view of your blind spot on the display, giving you an actual picture of what is beside you rather than a light telling you something is there.

How the Two Systems Work Together on the Highway

On their own, each system solves half the merge problem. Highway Driving Assist keeps your speed steady and your lane position centred while you look for a gap in traffic. Blind View Monitor fills in the other half by showing you what is actually in that gap.

Both systems read the road through the Santa Fe Hybrid’s cameras and radar sensors, so poor visibility, heavy rain, or faded lane markings can limit what they see. They are built to support your driving, not take over the decision. You still need to check the merge and commit to it yourself.

On Ultimate Calligraphy, Highway Driving Assist 2 adds Forward Attention Warning and the upgraded Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist 2, which reads pedestrians, cyclists, and junction-turning or junction-crossing traffic. Blind-spot Collision Avoidance Assist on this trim goes a step further than a warning, actively helping correct the vehicle if a collision risk is detected during a lane change.

Why This Matters for Everyday Driving in Nova Scotia

The 1.6L turbo hybrid powertrain produces 231 hp and 271 lb-ft of torque, delivered through HTRAC All-Wheel Drive that is standard across every Santa Fe Hybrid trim. That combination keeps the SUV pulling evenly onto a highway, which matters when a merge lane is short or traffic is moving fast.

Fuel economy sits at 6.9 L/100 km combined, so covering longer provincial highway stretches does not come with a heavy fuel penalty. For families who tow a small trailer, the Santa Fe Hybrid is rated for 2,000 lbs (907 kg) braked, and trailer sway control comes standard on every trim, adding stability during highway entry and exit with a load behind you.

Safety Tech by Trim: Preferred to Ultimate Calligraphy

The four Canadian trims split these systems in a clear pattern. Entry-level trims cover the core safety suite; Highway Driving Assist and Blind View Monitor arrive further up the lineup.

Preferred and Trend Package both come with Lane Keeping Assist, Lane Following Assist 2, adaptive cruise control, and Blind-spot Collision Warning as standard. What they don’t get is the camera-based blind spot view or the highway-specific coordination that HDA adds. Luxury is where both arrive together, and Ultimate Calligraphy adds Remote Smart Parking Assist plus the enhanced HDA 2 suite on top.

Who These Systems Are Built For

A driver doing mostly local, lower-speed trips may not miss Highway Driving Assist or Blind View Monitor; the standard Lane Keeping Assist and Blind-spot Collision Warning on Preferred and Trend Package already cover routine driving.

Families who spend more time on multi-lane highways, especially with a trailer behind them or a back seat full of kids pulling attention away from mirror checks, get more direct value from Luxury’s HDA 1 and Blind View Monitor pairing. Ultimate Calligraphy pushes that further with the active Blind-spot Collision Avoidance Assist and Remote Smart Parking Assist, suited to a household that wants the most active layer of support available in the lineup.

Highway Driving Assist and Blind View Monitor give the 2026 Santa Fe Hybrid a more complete picture of the road during a highway merge, from steady lane and speed control to an actual camera view of the blind spot, backed by standard HTRAC AWD and 271 lb-ft of torque.

Visit Central Nova Hyundai in New Glasgow to sit in a Luxury or Ultimate Calligraphy trim and see how these systems display on the road, and ask about trim-specific availability for your household’s needs.
